No More the Dime…

Give grace a chance
Don’t mask its worth
Let not its light dim from the smoke screens we don’t know we set up
Dragging it off its pedestal because we make it no more the dime piece…always the quarter
Give grace a chance to be
Give grace the chance to heal
Give grace a chance to be
…not the ready excuse when we want to lose our way
…not the tagline for hearts slipping away
Unmask its worth
The only light strong enough to bright our failures away
The only bridge that morphs us to the perfect ten…the one gift the rugged cross gives to overflow
Give grace a chance
Don’t mask its worth
Let not its light dim from the smoke screens we don’t know we set up
…because we hunger more for the next high
We lose sight of the rugged cross and with us…
So do they

Grace has been the go-to excuse for as long as I remember…trouble is, its used more as an excuse than as the gift is really is. See, there’s this orange truck that has ‘BLUE’ written boldly on its side. It’s a frequent scene on some route and soon, though it was really orange, everyone called it blue. In fact, if you’d ask for the orange bus that would take a little longer to think up because they’ve called it blue for so long their minds see the name more than the color. So what if this orange truck was grace and we labeled it say…excuse#1 for so long. After a while, do you think it’ll be called grace as much as it would be BLUE…excuse#1? We have received grace but in many ways, sometimes we block those that haven’t from reaching out to it because we’ve masked its worth in the way we hold it. The old hymn goes, ‘Grace that is greater than all our sin’; Let not its light dim from the smoke screens we don’t know we set up because we hunger for the next high because to the soul next door, you just might be the only Jesus they see.
